VOMIT DIARY *

Vomit Diary started as an email newsletter to my community. It included health updates, disability musings, what I am reading, silly things, and upcoming events. It is now a private Substack. In order to join, click the link below and send me a message via the contact form so that I know you are kind and real.

I have had migraines since I was eight years old, and chronically since 2019. By chronically, I mean I suffer between 4-30 migraines a month without treatment, and by the grace of god, some months none, one, or two. How many sick days do you get in a year, reader? At least twelve I pray.

Beyond the pain of the migraine, I have a lot of nausea. This symptom is the namesake of this newsletter. The expulsion of fluids and semi-solid materials from the body occasions a different type of abjection than pain. The abjection of pain is isolating. But, the abjection of the humors is connecting. One of you is dripping and an other is holding your hair back or helping you clean it up.

To be ill or to care for other bodies is to toe the tightrope of the erotic and the disgusting. It’s a fine line, isn’t it? We are in this together: crying, screaming, throwing up.

I am the people’s jester. Vomit Diary is an attempt to speak about illness and disability and, as an artist, I rely on humor and absurdity to survive the circus of political horrors. Laughter is powerful medicine.

Anne Boyer: “To be seriously ill, even without dying, is often to submit oneself to a poverty of optics: that of victim or of warrior, that of a compliant patient or a rebellious one…”

Add it all to the soup and let’s explore what comes up.

I hope this helps.

I hope you are well.

I hope you are free from pain.

I hope you find comfort and delight today.

Warmly,

Bimbi 💋💅🏼
